My mother had many of her poems published in the local paper during the years she raised us ten kids. I am proud to share them with you now! She is currently a widow, after 52 years of marriage!
The Splendor of a Tree
What a wonderful graceful thing,
In its out-reached arms birds sing.
It shelters us from the wind, snow, sun and rain,
And adds spectacular beauty that is a gain.
In such majestic creations there's a cure,
Like the hawthorn, hemlock, and honey-locust for sure.
For many animals and birds it serves as a lair,
Besides adding oxygen and filtering polluted air.
To stand under it in a thunderstorm wouldn't be a protection.
But how many of us sit and relax as the result of it's production?
One of God's magnificent gifts to us.
To injure one would be an IGNIS FATUUS!
Without them how bare this world would be,
Who can replace the splendor of a tree?

A Friend
A dear friend who entered eternity at 88...
Was truly a lady who was great.
This saint had a twinkle in her eye,
Every time I would visit and say, "Hi!"
A sturdy shelter was her clean home
Her understanding ear prevented me to roam.
I shall never forget her sunshine smile,
That warmed my heart all the while.
Her last name was CALTER...
She saw 3 sons on the altar.
With the love she gave, who could falter?

With Confidence In God
Oh, Lord how happy we can be...
If we put all our trust in Thee...
When we from all our fears can rest..
By remembering Thou art working for our best!
And be assured that Thou above..
In perfect wisdom, grace and love,
Will by our perseverance, prayer and fast..
Forgive all our sins of the past.
We can each day forgive others, rather than fuss...
Most friends do not intentionally hurt us.
When that day of morning does come,
Has our daily work been well done?
We must change ourselves some..
With self-control over our lives has been won
We will never look back again..
But with thanks, let our lives sing!
Confidence in God comes from within.

When I Am Alone
When I am alone dear lord, please stay by my side.
In all my daily needs please be my guide.
If Thou shall grant me good health I pray..
I'll try to carry on Your will from day to day.
Keep pure in my heart and soul, my every deed
Let me be kind, and unselfish in my neighbor's need
Save me from fire, flood, malicious tongues,
Thieves, fear and evil ones.
If illness or an accidental befall,
Humbly I pray, please hear my call.
When I'm feeling low or despair,
Lift up my heart and help me in my prayer.
When I am alone, dear Lord, I'll have no fear.
Because with Thy help, Jesus,
I'll feel Thy presence near.
