A Vivid Account of Exorcism Done at a Convent in Iowa 1928

A young girl was possessed. She and her family sought help from the Church. As she was being transported by train and bus to get to the convent where the exorcism was to be held, the priest who was to pick up the woman was almost killed in a car crash. When the exorcism was to take place, they decided to have it in a convent. The priest doing the exorcism was old and had experience. He knew that if many people were present, it would be more difficult to do. All the people who were present: nuns, priests, and lay people allowed had to confess daily. This was a protection against the devil who knows our unconfessed sins. Now a person can be possessed usually by more than one or many demons. These can be damned souls in hell who were former humans, or damned angels, and Lucifer himself. When the exorcism is being done, Lucifer himself will be in the person at that time, even if he wasnt' the entire time. He fights to the death and even will try to kill the priest and anyone present.

It is customary for the possessed person to do unnatural things like throw up in large amounts, spewing preferrably on the priest, to moan very eerily like a demon, to move in unnatural positions, and quote Latin or languages they otherwise would not know.

What's really cool, is because the priest, in the name and power of the Catholic Church, can actually make the devil answer questions and obey him, in the name of Jesus!! He will ask the devil things like "Why did you possess this person?" and one time a demon in the girl said it was her father and that he went to hell and he had cursed his daughter and that was why she became possessed. (There are reasons why people become possessed thru no fault of thier own).

The exorcism was successful, but it is common for the devils to possess a person again. Often when a person is possessed they can speak for themselves and say how tormented they feel or in this case, the girl had loved to go to Communion very often, and whilst she was possessed, the demon in her would make her not want to go, or prevent her from being able to go. The devil is let's say "uncomfortable around the Holy Eucharist" just as he is uncomfortable around anything holy. The priest giving exorcism uses the host to ward off the devil, as he used the crucifix. One time during the exorcism in Iowa, of which I've been speaking, the priest or someone held a crucifix which was made of some material other than wood. In this case, the devil laughed, interestingly enough, and said that it had no power because the real cross Christ died on was made of wood.

The priest, who is doing the exorcism has to be of good health and spiritually very strong because an exorcism can go on for days or even weeks. And it's emotionally, and mentally exhausting for all involved. In fact many priests are reluctant to perform exorcisms. Often it is an older, wiser priest with experience. On many statues of Mary, It shows her standing on a serpent which is a symbol of satan, the snake who in the book of Genesis in the bible, tempted Eve and she committed the first sin called original sin which cursed the human race.

Then when Jesus came, he relieved us of that curse by dying on the cross, and shedding His blood for us, to pay for our sins, so that all we have to do now, is to accept Him as our Savior and thank Him and start obeying Him by following what He taught while He was alive which is in the bible. But anyway, Jesus of course has won the victory for us over the devil by saving us.

Mary his earthly mother has also been instrumental in our salvation by accepting the role of the mother of God, of Jesus. So by that reason alone, the devil feels most defeated by her, because she is human and he feels very ashamed by that fact! So he cringes to hear her name. One short prayer you can say is:

"Immaculate Heart of Mary pray for us now and at the hour of our death Amen"

Other short prayers are, "Jesus, Mary, I love you, save souls" "My Jesus, My confidence" "Our mother of perpetual help!"

The Hail Mary: Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou amoung women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

May God rebuke him we humbly pray and do thou oh prince of the Heavenly host, by the divine power of God, cast into hell, satan and all the evil spirits who wander thoughout the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.
