A Cradle Catholic Becomes "Born Again" When being Christian can change a bit
67I want to share with you, what happened when I accepted Christ as my Savior.
I was brought up Catholic (and still am fond of it I must say) . One day I told my sister on the phone, who is Baptist, "I would like to have more Faith."
I had tried 3-4 times before to accept Christ (in the Baptist way) but never succeeded. This time I was really ready. We prayed, she read me passages from Romans in the Bible and I listened carefully and [really accepted Christ].
Now, what is the difference, you may ask between Catholics, Baptists, and other Christians?, Because they all generally accept Christ who died on the cross for them, etc.
Well, as a Baptist, I had to accept Christ without wanting or feeling I had to pay him back with good deeds. (Catholics are taught they have to do pennance and obey and not sin in order to get to Heavn.) Well, to me it was like this: Have you ever been given a gift at Christmastime by someone and you FEEL you need to give them something in return? Well that was sorta how I felt. I had to, and was able to ACCEPT CHRIST, HIS GIFT OF SALVATION, WITH GIVING NOTHING BACK which was a bit hard to do. But I finally grasped the concept.
As a result, I felt a very big "high" that lasted 2 hours. And every day for a month (approx), I felt moved by the Holy Spirit to be more motivated and try hard not to be irritable ~because my bipolar makes me that way.
I have done very well and am amazed at how much stronger, more gutsy, more strong willed, and how I've been able for the past 4+ months to be so more polite, less irritable/moody, and to speak to people with much more clarity and politeness~I used to say WHATEVER I FELT OR WANTED AND YELLED MUCH MORE.
It was only thru God's graces to me, that I've been moving forward~not without pain ~but nonethe less moving to more positive places!
My life has always had it's bittersweet pain~I often unite those pains to what Jesus suffered on the Cross. THIS TRULY HAS BEEN MY STRENTH, COMFORT, AND SALVATION!
I can't say how many times, I have just prayed and (now I read the Bible). I can open the Bible, and 98% of the time it will open up (randomly) to just the page I need!
I believe God is really there ~that He exists for us~ And if we just muster up enought Faith (even if it be the size of a mustard seed) He WILL help us and convert us :-)
It makes me happy to share this with you. I wish you a Blessed Day!!

schoolgirlforreal, A very touching story of your walk with God. I am first and fore-most a Christian, but I am also Catholic, but my religious beliefs are based in Christianity and God's Holy Bible, not necessarily in the teachings of the church as their teachings do not always agree with The Bible and the teachings from it by Jesus.
Brother Dave.
hi.nice 2 read ur hubs :-)
Being a IFB (Independent Fundamental Baptist) I stand and God's Word for my final authority in all. I believe in 'Sola Scriptura' meaning, 'The Bible Alone'.
This is not something the Catholic church believe's in. They believe that a man, 'the pope' has vito over the Bible and if his word goes against the Bible, that's ok because it's just a guideline.
But God has given us His Word, to read and base all our beliefs on because man will fail, even the pope. It is best to just stay in your Bible to help you understand the scripture's so that you can know when someone is teaching you against it.
I am praying for you in your journey.
I was raised Lutheran, attended baptist churches, pentecostal, and catholic...Now I have to say that I am just a Believer saved by grace. Rated up.

May Our Lord God, bless and help us all.
