Slavery vs. Abortion~What do they have in common? Are you anti abortion?

"Any country that accepts abortion is not teaching its people to love, but to use violence to get what they want. That is why the greatest destroyer of love and peace is abortion"
Mother Teresa
Whenever I hear anyone arguing for slavery, I feel a strong impulse to see it tried on him personally.
ABRAHAM LINCOLN, speech, Mar. 17, 1865
Howdy.
I have been doing a lot of thinking lately. I've seen some documentaries of slavery on tv, and I looked up a lot about slavery online. One thing that crossed my mind, while watching slave abuse and torture, and killing, and how helpless they were, and how many slave owners knew it was wrong but still did it...well that led me to think of abortion. I recently watched a good video which was very informative. It is below and was mentioned in the hubpages forums under Do you favor abortion. This thread was started by emdi; a fellow hubber and I thank him/her for doing so and posing the video (below). You can also read my comment in that forum.
This hub is about the comparison between slavery and abortion.
Abortion, I feel is, in it's lack of rights and it's torture of the child by tearing it apart while still alive--and considering it not human, is very similar or almost the same as slavery. When you watch the video below, which I hope you do as to prove you have an open mind to the truth, you'll see a former abortionist admit he realized he was doing wrong, you'll see the abortion take place and the body of the baby, you'll hear and see facts, and you'll become aware of the potential and horrible physical and emotional results that occur to women which the abortionists don't care about. It is typically Christian and other organizations that help these women with feelings of guilt, sucidality, and horrendous effects like hestorectomy, not able to ever have children, and even worse. Please watch.
Slavery in Britain and Ireland
Just talking to friends that know their history, apparently slavery has been going on since man has been around. Slavery was an easy way to get hard work done amoung other things.
Before 1066
From the times before Romans, slaves were exported routinely. In the early 5th Century Saint Patrick who was Roman, was captured by the Irish traders and taken as a slave to Ireland, hence St. Patrick in Ireland as we are told, teaching people about God using the clover.
In 1102 the Council of Westminister issued a decree, "Let no one hereafter presume to engage in that nefarious trade in which hitherto in England men were usually sold like brute animals." This however was not followed.
In the 17th- 19th century, indentured servants served for both major and petty crimes. By the 18th century, slave trade was a major economic help for Bristol and Liverpool which engaged in "triangular trade". In this trade, ships went out to capture African slaves. Slaves were worked to death, in the sugar cane fields, then more were brought over. Some slaves who were women were raped and then forced to marry their rapist. Over time, slaves revolted. In being brought over in ships, they would do anything possible to disrupt things, knowing they had nothing to lose.
Slaves were brought over in ships like cargo, crammed so close together that many died of lack of breath. There was an instrument called The Iron Muzzle that some slave owners used if they felt their slave was eating too much.

This issue has been on my heart for a while just wondering how to start to stand against it
This hub is great. Thanks for sharing
I fully agree with you. It is just like slavery, people who abort children are ridiculously cruel i mean they know that if they go with a man is highly likely to get pregnant then why go. Then the child have to suffer abstain if you don't want any children or use ....
The leaders of this world are some very wicked BASTARDS they allow nastiness, vileness, murders of babies, wars etc you name it by the laws they implement. Unacceptable
LOL oh thank you so much, spunk is good to have or else you won't survive out here.
Abortion is much worse, killing a cute little baby it's horrible,That's murder.
Well put together hub with thought provoking information. Thanks for sharing.
I respect and appreciate your views on abortion compared to slavery, however, I respectfully disagree with you. I feel that taking away a woman's right to have an abortion is equal to slavery, ...all women should have complete control of their reproductive rights as that is the core of being human,...or they become slaves themselves. Also, many of the information regarding abortion is actually not accurate and propaganda put forth by the Anti-Choice movement. Women should at least know the true medical facts about abortion before they make their decision. Thank You.
schoolgirlforreal-Thank you for publishing my comments and taking the time to read my opinions regarding abortion. I guess when I see things like questions that ask if the pro-choice movement is really trying to help women or make money I get upset because I know that most of the time the comment is targeted to pro-choice places like Planned Parenthood...many anti-choice people believe that places like Planned Parenthood want women to have abortions and don't give them information regarding carrying the pregnancy to term or adoption options...and that is just not true! I don't know where the idea that a non-profit organization like Planned Parenthood would actually receive grants from the government and private donors that would INCREASE their revenue by coercing women into terminating their pregnancies came from, but it is a totally false statement and completely undermines what many women's health centers like Planned Parenthood really do for women.
Planned Parenthood offers parenting classes and assistance for young girls who are pregnant and have decided to have their baby...many pro-life agencies don't offer choices at all and once the young woman has had her baby, they don't have any follow-up assistance or supportive service programs for her.
I have family members who work in the field of women's reproductive rights, and I have personally been through the abortion procedure...and I can honestly tell you that all options are presented and there is support for all choices...women who decide to abort, women who decide to continue with their pregnancy and keep their baby, as well as women who decide to continue with their pregnancy and give the child up for adoption.
I also don't like the argument that because the actual abortion procedure is not pleasant and involves blood and tissue, etc., that that makes it immoral and unnecessary.
From the information and the sources you have cited in your hub I think we are at totally opposing sides and generally disagree about when life begins and what defines women's freedom with reproductive rights...however, I do agree that women need to take responsibility for their reproductive health and practice safe sex...not only to avoid an unwanted pregnancy but to protect oneself from STD's, especially HIV/AIDS. Birth control doesn't always work even when used properly...and abortion must be a safe, legal, option for all women, in my opinion.
The morning after pill, or Plan B is very safe and is not an abortion method, you are correct, it is just like taking the birth control pill except in a concentrated dose...it doesn't work if you are already pregnant.
Even though we don't see eye to eye on this issue, your comments are thought provoking and I think when women discuss such important female centered issues like abortion with each other...even opposing sides...it is good...women need to connect more and try to understand each other even if they are different.
Keep up the good work on your writing! You obviously have many interesting, introspective, and well-thought out ideas and opinions...I look forward to reading more!
sincerely, regina s :)
thank you! :)
Very good hub schoolgirlforreal. Slaves and aborted babies have much in common.
Slavery and abortion also have this in common: Both are money-making businesses.
Many medical professionals make massive amounts of money performing abortions, AS DO THE COMPANIES THAT MANUFACTURE THE SURGICAL EQUIPMENT FOR SUCH A PROCEDURE.
There's a lot of up-turned palms in the abortion business...all waiting for that next dollar.
I love the quote you posted from Abraham Lincoln.
Very true indeed !

You know what I think, is that there was a time when enlightened Americans thought Slavery was acceptable. Now however it's not, so perhaps there will be a time when enlightened American's realize that Abortion is not okay either. Thank you for this hub, yes the pictures were hard to look at it just breaks my heart, I hope within my lifetime we see an end to such barbaric treatment of people.
