Hello reader.
Watching too much tv and surfing the internet has been proven to be a serious health risk. Please read the article and comment below.
Cable tv and internet~how much is too much!! Let's find out if you can handle it or are you addicted? Do you realize how your habits may have changed since you upgraded on cable? And has your interent usage increased? Let's find out!
Let's Start With Some Facts
According to the Los Angeles Times, Australian researchers found that each hour a day spent in front of television is linked with an 18% greater risk of dying from cardiovascular disease and an 11% greater risk of all causes of death and a 9% increase risk of death from cancer.
The problem is long periods of sitting and inactivity physically leading to obesity and health issues. Not using the muscles in your body for extended periods of time is what this is about. Even those who exercise alot can be affected. That's why getting up off the couch for a walk or to cook, or do housework, or use an exercise ball is recommended. This sitting still also applies to being on the computer.
[Think BACK!] Before you had cable or internet, what did you do more of?
See results without votingSandra recently could afford cable due to her new job. She decided to get basic. They (Comcast) gave her free HBO and Cinemax.
She gets home from work and puts on the tv. All she can find- that she didn't have before on (5 channels was it?) is Keeping Up With the Kardiashians. So she watches that. And then she watches Sex in the City, and Everybody Loves Raymond. She cannot find Animal Planet or Nova, or the Catholic Channel....things she likes. Or perhaps she just doesn't know how to use cable...after all she's never had cable!
Well, if she did without cable all these years.........
Sandra is the type who grew up and didn't watch alot of tv. She likes the occassional comedy sitcom and movies and even loved Vampire Diaries--Stephan was so hot!, but she found herself forgetting to watch it.
Sandra was more into the internet, and writing, and .....
When she got cable just recently, all she saw was junk....or that's what she ended up watching. Perhaps it's too many channnels to choose from, anyhow, she decided she didn't like it. All the "junk" was filling her head with nonsense. Whatever happened to going for a walk?? Or playing music, or reading, or going to the gym?
Now some may value the internet moreso over the two because:
- Firstly, it's like a tv and computer in one with free tv and movies
- Secondly, it's for research- the modern but better encyclopedia...
- Thirdly, you can work from home and earn a living
Okay just a tip off the iceberg with what you can do. BUT.....
Is having the internet at home making you crazy?!! Ask yourself these questions =they don't apply to all=
- AM I DOING USEFUL THINGS LIKE WORKING/BLOGGING/RESEARCHING?
- Do I fail to get out much?
- Do I fail to exercise
- Do I fail to see people
- Do I fail to take a walk?
- Are all my friends on facebook? And have I met any of them?!!
- Have I gained weight since I increased my time spent on internet?
Just a few ideas.
Now Sandra, she went without the internet for 6 months- at home that is. She realized, it actually helped her in some ways. She went to bed early and got up early, she had been addicted to it and was up all nite on it. Now she goes to the gym and for walks and out more and saves her internet time to the computer at work, library, or wifi locations ---which are not open all nite!!
Many things can be addicting. Luckily for me it's just the internet! LOL!
I ask you to be honest about how much time you spend online; perhaps it's my opinion but too much is too much don't you think? What do you think? There have been studies shown that too much internet or tv:
Be Honest!!!
Are YOU an internet JunKiE?

See results without votingIs Tv Making You Stupid?
The above video speaks of how too much tv is hurting our country's collective intelligence. It says reading a good book is satisfying and a whole different experience, as we use our brains to picture images and seek out understandings.
Our use of our brain is declining and our attention spans are shorter. Do you replace reading time with tv time? Literacy of college grads has dropped from tv and surfing the internet. Nothing can replace the written word. A good book can change you and help you discover what is inside yourself- away from that glowing plasma screen.
Lastly, my own thought is, "What about reading online?". I think this is better than no reading at all; I believe it is profitable but to me, there's nothing like a paperback book that I can curl up with.

Your hub is on point for many reasons but I've been trying to necessitate my usage in terms of what I need to do, want to do, and what can wait. If I don't get some kind of exercise or human interaction- I notice I get too internet-like which is like an owl except not as wise. Great observations and information!
