The Difference Between Loneliness and Solitude

Updated on December 29, 2016

Loneliness is 1.unhappy as a result of being without the companionship of others: a lonely man 2.causing or resulting from the state of being alone: a lonely exisintence 3.isolated, unfrequented, or desolate 4.without companions; solitary.

Solitude is to enjoy being in a quiet place, being alone by choice.

I was thinking about the difference between loneliness and solitude and they are quite different. It is actually important to seek solitude in order to process your thoughts and the day and to de-stress.

Spending time alone is very important for introverted people especially, as they get tired being around people sometimes. I find I can relax well when around just one person at a time, or small groups, although I do enjoy larger groups and being around crowds at times.

Everyday we need our time for solitude. At the beginning of the day is best, to spend about five minutes in silence to meditate and prepare for the stresses of the day. It's a good time to spend in quiet prayer and reflection. We can ask God to help us have a good day and declare that we will have a good day!

Also at the end of the day we can take time to relax especially in bed in the dark with quiet to reflect and meditate and say our night prayers. Thank God for the blessings in your life no matter how small they may seem and to ask for what you need.

How Often Do You Spend Time In Solitude?

I decided to sit and be quiet for ten minutes. Well, when I was done, I had come up with a brilliant idea for what I'm going to do for Christmas gifts this Christmas!

I was inspired! It worked!

I hope this article has helped you see the difference between being lonely and spending time with God and peace and quiet. And even if you live alone, you are not alone because you live in a community, a neighborhood, and you can learn how to become more active in your community if you don't work, or are not.

Look for local things to do, walk around and talk to your neighbors, and get to know the world around you, and you will never feel alone even if you have no husband/wife.

Thank you for reading.
