The Cat With a Big Heart~Healing and Huggable Pets!
61I love this cat!
Adoption Day
I adopted Lenny when I answered an "ad" and went to come pick him up. I was tired of looking; and he looked cute in the picture.
When I got there the woman had him already in his carrier, he weighed 17 lbs! I had to take him for I wasn't gonna keep looking for a free cat, and I drove an hour to meet him and his owner.
Learning to open doors
I lived in a 2nd fl apt so Lenny had to remain an indoor cat. We tried all we could to get him to play/exercise/eat less but it didn't work. Anyways, Lenny learned how to open the curved door latches in my apartment! He constantly opened my bedroom door to get to me~he couldn't stand being alone even while I was asleep :)
Comforting the Elderly :-)
About 6 months ago, I brought him to my parents house- for they needed my care as they are elderly. Well, it really worked out, Lenny made friends right away with everyone! Especially my parents. He comforted both my parents in their alone time and pain by jumping up on their bed. They both recently became limited to walker and wheelchair so Lenny provided cheerful and sympathetic company, he spent more time with them than I!!
He's a healing cat, she says!
But the real healing occured when my Mom told me Lenny would lie next to her when she was in pain and it would go away! Cats do have a great tendency to be healing and calming to us. Lenny is not an exception, but he does have a really big and sensitive heart for a cat. Mom calles Lenny "THE CAT WITH THE HEART". He's always been so able to pick up on my mood also and he comes to me if I feel sick or am sad.
GOING OUTSIDE FOR THE FIRST TIME
Lenny had been an indoor cat as long as I'd known him and his previous owner kept him in too. Indoor cats are not as active and tend to gain more weight. I think the previous owner fed my cat alot of table food, because he begged alot!!! So, at my parent's house, he was able to go outside for the first time since they have a house and yard!! I was so glad for Lenny that he had the same opportunity all my other cats growing up have had. :)
One cat teaching another
Maurice is my parent's cat, a veteran of the outdoors. Maurice said, "Lenny, you're missing out! You gotta come outside with me!" Maurice kept urging Lenny to go outside. One day Lenny and Maurice were together by the door, so I opened it and Maurice went out and sat waiting, saying "Lenny you coming?" I urged Lenny to go outside "It's ok, honey you can go out." I think Lenny was nervous because it was his first time!! Out they went together and Maurice showed Lenny around. They continued to go out together and some months went by. I stopped by to see my parents and I saw Lenny was smaller! It was hard to notice at first, but I weighed him and do you know Lenny has lost 5 1/2 pounds since going out?!! I was soooo happy. And I can tell Lenny is happier--I think cats should be outdoor cats for their happiness. Lenny plays in the grass, and chases birds and even tried to chase a squirrel! He gets exercise and I know he's happier.
Kitty Poetry
That’s Lenny
Along comes Lenny looking up at me with soulful eyes
I know he wants my food and he cries without even meowing
Everytime we eat, he feels he needs a treat
That’s Lenny
Opening up my door with a jump and a push of his paws
That’s Lenny
Weighing in at seventeen pounds!
And from room to room he follows me round
That’s Lenny!
Soft and sweet yet quiet and discreet
Savoring every foot rub and every treat
That’s Lenny
Bold and daring, yet sweet and caring
Loves me and cuddles me
That’s Lenny and we love him!~

Awesome Hub! I rated it up a notch! Keep on writing! I raised my little 3 month old kitten (Chance) from birth! I loved this Hub and treasure them as well! I also have a 4 year old Cat named YO-YO! We are blessed aren't we?
Lenny, the proud owner of a human looks real good! I like that color too.
My cat's littered. Four little squeakers all of them grey but with different designs. All four look like a micro version of the original. LOL!
Write more about Lenny.
Rose~ I love this hub. My cats, Miss Kitty and Chance (@cluense what a cool cat name we chose)run the place. They are warm and sweet and I wouldn't trade them for anything. Thank you for writing this hub hub-buddy! I wish for you a smile this day--

I was very much interested in your comment about a healing cat. My sister has six cats, and they vary in terms of their comfort levels are other people. When I visit, two or three are very friendly, a few others less so, and one usually stays in the other rooms when company is there. When my brother was sick from cancer, this cat that stayed away from people always came out and sat with my brother. The entire time he was sick, whenever he visited this cat was there. Now that he is gone, the cat has returned to staying in the other room. It was fascinating and odd, but also beautiful. Cats are magical creatures.
Thanks for a very nice hub about a wonderful pet.

Hi Rose! I loved this page on Lenny! I think animals do have healing powers. If nothing else they help people to relax, and with relaxation comes greater healing. :) I also love the video at the bottom of funny cats. It's hilarious! I remember all the cats that have been in the house in Canton. Oreo, and Toby, and now Maurice and Lenny.
Hi, we have always had cats until recently and they are lovely, as you said they are great comforters for elderly people, my mum always had her cat curled up on her feet! and I loved the video, brilliant! cheers nell

Rose - I enjoyed reading about Lenny - it's a good thing you let him go outside to exercise - he definitely needed to lose weight. You probably prolonged his life.
And thanks for the funny cat video - they are all feline stars!
