What Does The Poem Footprints Really Mean?

I have read Footprints before and the first time I was a teenager I guess. I saw it in a little religious gift shop and I thought, "Oh that's nice" just like every other inspirational thing they had. I never actually bought a poster or plaque of it.

Many years have passed and still it was not of great significance to me really. I mean, It's a nice plaque. It may have meant more to the person who gave me a plaque of it though. They seemed to really like it enough to buy it.

It is pretty so I've kept it.

What did it mean to them or most people?

I think it's generally a story (in my opinion) of a person's relationship with God which does not necessarily run deep. It was just a plaque or reminder of hope. But what happens/happened when that person I know, kept getting disappointed and eventually saying, "Oh God just does not exist."

I mean, that happens to a lot of people. They really just think Ok I don't have to be an exceptional Christian but when things don't go my way, there's no more God.

A true Christian knows God IS there everyday and even if they do not feel it, they believe. It's not easy to have faith. I guess faith is a gift. It can grow though over time.

My point of this story is that to me Footprints is just a poem or prayer that seems sort of empty. A real relationship with God and Jesus is to understand that yes, bad things can happen but it doesn't mean there's no God.

Owning a plaque would never keep me in a relationship with God. It's being born again and reading His word the bible that makes me sure and know He's there. What is He doing when things don't go my way? We have to be tested, to learn things and He allows us to be tested. The end result is we will be stronger.

But I can't see how anyone can get by in this world, with all it's difficulties, without God. This world has little but turbulence to offer. A constant changing wind, and threat of violence and war. We need faith to stay grounded and keep our eyes on the stars! On heaven and our final destination. It gives me great comfort and confidence to know that there is life everlasting with a God who is merciful and loving where I will be like His daughter (not as a servant or slave.)

Though Jesus, we have inheritance. He said 'I would build a place for you." He wants to populate Heaven. Why would you want to be with Jesus? Do you think it's boring in heaven or even in church? You may think so. But isn't it greater to have Peace than to live the opposite way in fear and unassurance? Living one day at a time, never sure you're really going to be okay? God gives us assurance. He tells us He wants good things for us, for us to prosper and be fruitful.

I find life is challenging as a Christian, but there's no fear. In II Tim 1:7 "For the Lord hath not given us the spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind." One thing I like that Joyce Meyer (bible speaker) said was, "My worst day with God is better than my best day without Him."
