What Kind of Fun Can a Practicing Christian Have?

Updated on April 4, 2014

Is there fun when you're a Christian?

Lately, I've been into my Faith a lot and haven't been doing a lot of the things I used to, which really didn't bring me true joy anyways like going to a bar (for karokee) or dating some guy I don't like or hanging out with a friend I don't really like. I mean, I gave up and will give up a lot to get where I want to go in my life even if it's SOME friends or activities. But what will I replace them with? Well, it's time to get crackin and make a "bucket list" or rather "To do" list of fun stuff from now until Whenever.

So now I need to think of what I enjoy doing, and the things I've always wanted to do but didn't, and that can include things that don't cost money, and make a list. Yes, a list.

So right now, let me think. I want to:

  1. Get back to swimming
  2. Go to the beach
  3. Parks of all kinds for walking, nature, animals
  4. Carnivals and amusement parks
  5. Walks holding hands
  6. Zoos!
  7. Museums! (free or discounted passes available at your local library)
  8. Theatre! (Also free or discounted at local library or college plays)
  9. Concerts - rock would be nice
  10. Unusual attractions like a wax museum or King Richard's Faire

A lot of these things I didn't do for years because of a low budget. But some of them are free and low cost.

Other things like hobbies:

  1. Painting and drawing
  2. Reading
  3. Movies
  4. Writing
  5. Bowling
  6. Pool
  7. Chess
  8. Scrabble
  9. Singing and karokee
  10. Helping others

Many of these are free too.

Balance

When you're a Christian, it's important to be "young at heart." For we cannot enter the Kingdom of Heaven unless we become like 'little children'. (Not literally of course.)

What does it mean? It means we can have good clean fun but we don't have to be bored either. I admit, sometimes I feel a bit bored and I myself have no problem going to a karokee bar if I choose to when I want to. I do feel things can get a little dull and so i spice it up by having a good sense of humor, and maybe being a mini prankster or what you would call feisty.

There's nothing wrong with being feisty! You can have fun. I don't have to curse or swear but if I'm getting bored with MYSELF I CAN start doing fun things and lighten up and start enjoying people. Jesus enjoyed people. He spent time with all kinds of people.

WHY AM I THE ONLY CHRISTIAN IN MY FAMILY OR JOB?!!!

Joyce, good old Joyce Meyer, says it's an honor if you find yourself in that position!!! Well it happens and it's okay. Just keep up your routine of prayer and reading the Word and you can be balanced. But it's just as important to be balanced by doing fun things too! :)

What's Your Idea of Fun that's ok for a Christian?

Have Fun!

Catholicism seems to promote misery as opposed to Christianity (Baptist, Evangelical, Pentecostal--just bible Christians, born again,) I have notice this and also almost a victim mentality of being a martyr. Not healthy.

Jesus said, "I came that they might have life and have it more abundantly." John 10:10

The Bible has many quotes about salvation being the way to becoming more happy. It is a way to being happy. Cast your cares on the Lord not only but enjoy life and let go of anger and worry.

Bible Quotes About Enjoying Life:

John 16:24 - Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.

Proverbs 17:22 - A merry heart doeth good [like] a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones.

Ecclesiastes 5:18 - Behold [that] which I have seen: [it is] good and comely [for one] to eat and to drink, and to enjoy the good of all his labour that he taketh under the sun all the days of his life, which God giveth him: for it [is] his portion.
